Country Dancing in Seattle

Country Dancing in SeattleCountry Dancing in Seattle

There are very few places to go Country dancing in Seattle anymore. Country Dancing in Seattle slowed down after its heyday during the 1990s but has been steadily on the rise again. In the late 1980s through the 1990s there were many Country bars and clubs in the area like the Riverside (Tukwila) , Little Red Hen (Seattle), Parker’s (North Seattle), McCabe’s (Tacoma), Club Broadway (Everett), Jerry Andel’s (Everett & Auburn) and the Rockin’ Horse Dance Barn (Renton).

Rockin’ Horse Dance Barn

The Rockin’ Horse Dance Barn is by far the biggest one left. One thing that sets the Rockin’ Horse Dance Barn apart from the other places to go dancing is there is no alcohol. It is a place to just dance and have a good time. With 4,000 sq. ft. it is the largest hardwood dance floor for “any” kind of dancing in the Seattle area.

If you live in Seattle or are visiting Seattle this is a destination you really should put on your list of places to go for Country Dancing in Seattle. The best night for country dancing is Friday night. There are dance lessons every night and even during the day.

Dave Serfling

The owner Dave Serfling has been teaching adults to dance since 1988. His relaxed fun attitude has helped thousands of people come to love dancing. His decades of experience teaching has helped everyone that wants to learn to dance “Learn to Dance” and have fun. If you are looking for a place to start your Country dancing in Seattle you should try the Rockin’ Horse Dance Barn for sure.

25th Annual Ho-ho-hoedown at Rockin Horse Dance Barn

Here comes our 25th Annual Ho-ho-hoedown at Rockin Horse Dance Barn on Friday. We will be celebrating our Class Party & Potluck, Dave’s Birthday (that’s me) and Christmas with our 25th Annual Ho-ho-hoedown. You can expect a great turnout this night. Dave Serfling will be teaching Nightclub 2-Step at 7pm so please join us for the whole evening. There will be our potluck at 8:30pm (please bring an item to share), Raffle drawings and door prizes.

I love December as most of you know. It’s my birthday month and I wait all year long for it. I try to celebrate as much as possible this time of year. Night gets to its longest in December and it tends to feel the coldest and dampest so I like to celebrate it with indoor dancing and parties.

Renton Dance Classes

renton-dance-classesEvery year my wife and I make a New Year’s resolution and do our best to help each other meet our goals. Usually this involves each of us endeavoring on our own personal quest, but this year our objectives were aligned. When the New Year hit, we decided to signup for some Renton dance classes.

Neither of us is proficient on the dance floor. As a matter of fact, we even decided to not take our first dance when we got married in fear of embarrassing ourselves. After just a few weeks at our new dance classes at the Rockin’ Horse Dance Barn, however, we both have a newly imbued sense of confidence. We even ventured out to a dance club last weekend.

What does the 1a or 1b mean?

1-2-3-4What does the 1a or 1b mean?

Looking at our class schedule you may wonder what 1a or 1b vs 2 & 3 are all about. These notations are the way that we categorize our dance classes and lay out the progression pattern for our students.

Our Level 1 (Beginner Dance Classes)

This is the starting foundation level for all of our dances (bronze level or beginner). You can come in to any of these classes with little or NO experience . . . the instructors will start off with the rhythm and count of each dance and continue on through how to connect with your partner and lead/follow. In a beginning level class you will learn many moves and turns and build confidence in the dance style.

Our Level 2 (Beyond Beginner Dance Classes)

*Requirement: You must complete both Level 1a and 1b at a minimum of once each. (We recommend 2 or 3 times each for many new students. There is a great discount for repeating, 25% off 2nd time, 50% 3rd time and beyond. Line Dancing has a different discount)

Now take your introductory/beginner material to the next level . . . refining your level 1 moves as well as progressing your skills through more complex moves & patterns (upper bronze & silver or Beginner Plus or Beyond Beginner).

Our Level 3 (Intermediate/Advanced Dance Classes)

*Requirement: You must complete Level 1a and 1b and all Level 2 classes.

Once you are comfortable with all the Level 2 dance classes (and with instructor permission) you can move in to our Level 3 Classes where the sky’s the limit (upper silver & gold+) . . . material at this level includes more advanced styling and syncopations.
